Release Event of our Blue Economy Report!

It's Time To Ride The Blue Wave!

“This report showcases the immense impact that our maritime and BlueTech industries have on our regional economy. Here in San Diego, we have the powerful potential to create a Silicon Valley for BlueTech, with a high volume of great paying jobs for our local workforce”

  • San Diego Mayor, Todd Gloria

As one of the largest BlueTech cluster organizers in the US, TMA BlueTech is singularly focused on promoting sustainable, science-backed technologies within the Blue Economy and BlueTech sectors in Southern California.

This Friday (May 6th) from 3-5pm at the Maritime Museum in San Diego, TMA will release the results of our The San Diego Maritime, Water and BlueTech Economy report. This report was commissioned/financed by the City of San Diego and San Diego County to measure the strength and growth of the Maritime/Water/BlueTech economy in the San Diego area.

VIP's at this event include U.S. Congressmen Scott Peters and Juan Vargas, San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria, Chair of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors Nathan Fletcher, Director of Scripps Institute of Oceanography Margaret Leinen, Port of San Diego Commissioner Rafael Castellanos, Deanna Spehn, Policy Director for Senate President pro Tempore Toni Atkins, as well as BlueTech industry leaders, and other educators, innovators, and policy-makers.

Why is this event important?

This event is important because we are going to present why the San Diego Maritime, Water and BlueTech economy is such an important driver of sustainable economic growth for the area, with significant growth potential for high-paying jobs. Here are just some of the findings of the report:

  • This industry generated $16.2 billion and employed more than 114,000 people
  • This accounts for 5% of the business establishments in San Diego County
  • Between 2012 and 2020, revenues in this sector increased by 18%

The intention of this report is to increase and generate more concerted political and economic support of this growing economic sector. There is already significant momentum towards growth in the global Blue Economy, and we want to use this report to justify a concerted focus on making San Diego one of the world's most attractive cities for this sector (like a Silicon Valley for the Blue Economy).
